The developers tie those ruins to what happened to Tortheldrin.
Desolace's centaur factions get more quests and rewards, and Shen'dralas quests add more to do in Razorfen Downs and Maraudon.

Levels and quests
The 1-60 route reaches Shen'dralas in the level 40 to 50 stretch, after the Riverglades, by following the centaur story south.
Each of the four new zones has between 50 and 200 quests.
