What's new vs Classic

FreeUpdated

What changed and what is new against Classic, area by area.

On this page7 sections

Still the same as Classic: level cap 60, 51 talent points across 3 trees, the experience needed to reach 60, no flying and no Dungeon Finder.

Leveling · 5

Dungeon quests, campfires and riding are what changed.
  • Dungeon experience

Experience from dungeon monsters was cut hard and dungeon quest experience was raised a lot. The first run is the one that pays.

  • Rested experience

Outdoor campfires grant rested experience out in the world.

  • Fight length

Solo fights are tuned to last about 10-15 seconds. Dungeon pulls are about 3-4 mobs and expect crowd control.

  • Riding

Level 40. You pay for training. The first mount is free. Not announced Which training price applies at level 40.

  • WoW Token and paid boosts

    Neither exists in Forever.

Talents and Legacy · 7

A new milestone at 16 points in every tree, and account-wide Legacy points.
  • Milestones in each tree

Adds a milestone at 16 points, which you reach at level 25. Classic: 11, 21 and 31 points. See every milestone in the calculator

  • Balance goal

All 27 trees are meant to be viable for all content, without any being strong enough to stack a raid with.

  • Dual specialization and respec price

Plan one talent build at a time, and read the trainer's price before you pay to reset. Not announced Whether there is dual specialization, and what a respec costs.

  • Legacy system

3 tracks of perks: Adventure, Professions, Resourcefulness. Classic: None.

  • Points per account

Your account can earn up to 65.

  • Points per character

Each character spends at most 16 at launch. Legacy points explained

  • Reward Track

Extra points feed a track of cosmetic rewards. The Spectral Bear Cub was the named example.

Races and classes · 3

1 new race, 6 new free combinations, Paladins and Shamans on both factions.
  • New race

Skyborne: Alliance High Order (Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Mage, Druid) or Horde Windshaper (Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman, Druid). Needs a paid Blizzard pack. Classic: 8 races.

  • New free combinations

Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Undead Paladin, Troll Warlock. Race and class table

  • Paladin and Shaman

Undead can be Paladins and Dwarves can be Shamans, so both factions have both classes. Classic: Paladin Alliance only, Shaman Horde only. What changed for each class

Names and rulesets · 6

A first and a last name, unique per region. Rulesets, not realms.
  • Character name

A first and a last name, 2–12 letters each. Classic: One name. Roll names

  • Uniqueness

The full name is unique per region, across Normal, PvP and RP. You can share a first or a last name, not both. Classic: Per realm.

  • Early reservation

27 Oct to 3 Nov 2026, with any upgrade pack. Up to 3 characters. Not announced The opening hour.

  • Where you play

A ruleset: Normal, PvP, RP. Classic: A realm. Rulesets explained

  • Hardcore

Later: Winter 2026. A closed ruleset: a character who dies can move to Normal, PvP or RP.

  • Across rulesets

Collections and Legacy points are shared across Normal, PvP and RP. Characters and groups are not.

Zones, quests, dungeons and raids · 5

New zones, quests, dungeons, raids and a fourth battleground.
  • New zones

Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Shen'dralas, Mount Hyjal. All 4 new zones

  • New quests

1000+ new quests, from about level 5 and in old zones too.

  • New dungeons

9 at launch, from level 13 to 60. One difficulty, no Heroic mode.

  • Raids

Unlock 9 Dec 2026: Barrow Deeps (10 players), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia's Lair (40).

  • Battlegrounds

All 3 return, and Darkspear Islands joins them: 15 against 15, control points plus flags. Classic: Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley.

The launch dungeons, by level: The Hall of Thanes (13-18), Ruins of Lordaeron (15-20), Excavation Site: Wetlands (24-29), City of Dalaran (28-33), The Drowned City (35-40), Krol'dok Stronghold (40-45), Alcaz Prison (48-53), Blackmaw Hold (55-60), Shaper's Terrace (58-60).

World and grouping rules · 4

Meeting stones do not summon, and camps buff whoever sits at the fire.
  • Meeting stones

A meeting stone opens a group listing and nothing more. Walk to the door, or bring a Warlock: Ritual of Summoning still needs two other party members standing there.

  • Recent Allies

After you group with someone, their name shows in a different color when you meet again, which makes a second invite easier. It is not shared credit and not a friends list.

  • World refresh

A five-minute world refresh warning means you are about to move to another copy of the outdoor zone. Leave combat first. Refresh Now starts the move early; Okay only hides the notice.

  • Camping

Professions build camp objects that buff players who sit at a campfire. The first ones come at profession skill 20. Professions and camping
