Quest outdoors, run each new dungeon once for its quests, and use campfires for rested experience. Experience to 60 matches Classic.

Starting zones
Quest through your race's starting zone. New Forever quests start to appear at about level 5.
What to do
1Clear your starting zone. Classic races keep their original zones, now with new Forever quests mixed in.
2Skyborne start on Zephras Isle and stay until about level 12, then join the shared world.
3Pick up a gathering profession early. One starter reward is a choice of three books: Mining for Dummies, Pelt Collecting for Beginners or Wild Harvest. Each teaches the gathering skill and gives 2 skill points.
4Expect solo fights to last about 10-15 seconds each.

Stay in the Classic level 10-20 zones and run each new dungeon once for its quests.
What to do
1Quest through your faction's Classic 10-20 zones.
2Alliance: collect the five quests for The Hall of Thanes (13-18), under Ironforge, and run it once.
3Horde: run Ruins of Lordaeron (15-20) in Tirisfal Glades. Alliance groups can run it too.
4Do each dungeon once with every quest in your log, then go back outside. The first run is the one that pays.
5From level 14 you can start the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain for a small experience bonus (see Side quests).

Wetlands and the dig
The Wetlands is bigger than you remember. Quest there, then run the Excavation Site.
What to do
1Make the expanded Wetlands part of your 20s. It has many new quests.
2Run Excavation Site: Wetlands (24-29) once. The entrance is above Whelgar's Excavation.
3At 28, head for the City of Dalaran (28-33) in the Alterac Mountains. It is built to be explored, not run as a straight corridor.
4Group nearby objectives into one trip. There is no flying, so every detour is on foot.

Into the Riverglades
Finish Dalaran, then move into the Riverglades, the new zone for your mid-30s to mid-40s.
What to do
1Finish the City of Dalaran by level 33.
2Move into the Riverglades in your mid-30s. It is about the size of Stranglethorn Vale and carries you to the mid-40s.
3Get there on the Steamwheedle boat route from Tanaris to Powderfuse Port, or through the new travel point in Redridge that enters by way of the Burning Steppes.
4Run The Drowned City (35-40) once for its quests.
5Leveling slows down in this range. You can break off into the Riverglades from Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace or Arathi Highlands whenever quests run dry.

Your mount, Krol'dok and Shen'dralas
Learn to ride at 40, finish the Riverglades and follow the centaur story south into Shen'dralas.
What to do
1Learn riding at 40. The gold cost is on the training, and your first mount is free once you have paid for it.
2Keep questing in the Riverglades to the mid-40s and run Krol'dok Stronghold (40-45) once.
3Follow the Magram and Gelkis centaur story in Desolace. It carries you south through the Valley of Bones into Shen'dralas.
4At 48, Alcaz Prison (48-53) opens on Alcaz Island in Dustwallow Marsh.

2Quest in Mount Hyjal, the new endgame zone: the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat, including Darkwhisper Gorge.
3Run Blackmaw Hold (55-60) in Azshara. Azshara has many new quests as well.
4Run Shaper's Terrace (58-60) in Un'Goro Crater, the last new dungeon before raids.
5Expect a second slow stretch close to 60. Plan dungeon quests and rested experience around it.

The rules that change how you plan a session.

Dungeon quests pay. Trash does not.
Experience from killing dungeon monsters was cut hard, and experience for completing dungeon quests was raised a lot. Run each dungeon once with every quest, then go back outside to Shen'dralas, the Riverglades or Hyjal when you reach them. (Kris Zierhut, The Sun)

Campfires give rested experience
Outdoor campfires grant rested experience out in the world, and most crafted food adds a small experience bonus while you level. The Legacy perk Well Rested makes rested experience build faster and raises its cap. (Blizzard, Deep Dive)
Traditional tagging
The first player to hit a mob owns it. Hitting a mob someone else tagged gives you no quest credit, so party up for crowded kill quests and check each other's logs. (Greenfield, via Wowhead)
Meeting stones do not summon
A meeting stone opens a group listing and nothing more. Walk to the door, or bring a Warlock: Ritual of Summoning still needs two other party members standing there. (Kotaku; Warcraft Tavern, 14 Sep)
Slower, deliberate fights
Solo fights are tuned to last about 10-15 seconds. Dungeon pulls are about 3-4 mobs and expect crowd control. Dungeons and raids have one difficulty. (Developer interviews; Q&A, 17 Sep)

Friends group on the same ruleset and the same faction. Collections and Legacy points are shared across Normal, PvP and RP. (Blizzard)
Recent Allies

Find the Burned-Out Remains. Alliance: in the cart wreckage at Alexston Farmstead, Westfall. Horde: in the burnt tower south of Camp Taurajo, the Barrens. Lying in the bag adds 1% experience each minute, up to 3%, on a 1-hour cooldown. The chain also gives 5 Student Fodder and a 12-slot bag from the quest Stepping Stones. Silver of the WavesLoch Modan
Loot the Discarded Fishing Toolbox underwater at 45.6, 43.4 and take the Monogrammed Silver Hair Clip to Khara Deepwater, the fishing supplies vendor at about 39.5, 39.2. Reward: Repurposed Hair Band, a cloth wrist with 2 Intellect and 2 Spirit. The Young Threshadons near the box are higher level than most mobs in the loch. (Warcraft Tavern, 20 Sep, seen in the beta)
Friend of the LibraryAny level
Turn books in at your faction's library. 10 books: a neck, Scholarly Pendant or Erudite's Amulet. 20 books: a ring, Field Researcher's Loop or Philanthropist's Ring. Mages who finish the turn-ins learn Research, which spends Light Feathers to make spell scrolls on a 1-hour cooldown. (Warcraft Tavern, 21 Sep, seen in the beta)

Mor'Ladim in Duskwood now also rewards the Ladimore Heirloom Ring, a caster ring shown with +6 Intellect and up to +5 spell damage and healing. Nesingwary's Stranglethorn chain gives the Master Hunter's Spellsword, a two-hander built for Paladins, shown with +12 Strength and up to +14 spell damage. (Blizzard, Deep Dive demo)
