How Destruction plays
- Destruction is direct damage, and it begins with Shadow Bolt. Bane takes 0.5 sec off its cast, and Improved Shadow Bolt makes each of its critical strikes raise the Shadow damage the target takes from you by 20% for 60 sec.
- Ruin raises the critical strike damage bonus of your Destruction spells by 100%.
- Shadowburn is an instant blast, and if a non-trivial target dies within 8 sec of being hit by it you gain a Soul Shard.
- The Fire half arrives with Conflagrate, the milestone, which needs your Immolate on the target and consumes it.
- Shadow and Flame ties the halves together. Hitting with Conflagrate raises your Shadow damage by 10% for 100 sec, hitting with Shadowburn does the same for Fire, and at five points Conflagrate stops consuming Immolate.
What to press first
Most important first. Not a rotation.
- 1
Lean on Shadow Bolt
Improved Shadow Bolt makes its critical strikes raise the Shadow damage the target takes from you.
- 2
Put Immolate on before Conflagrate
Conflagrate only works on a target that already has your Immolate.
- 3
Finish enemies with Shadowburn
Shadowburn gives you a Soul Shard if the target dies within 8 sec of the hit.
- 4
Use both Conflagrate and Shadowburn to hold both bonuses
Shadow and Flame gives each of them a 10% bonus to the other school that lasts 100 sec.
- 5
Put Bane of Havoc on one enemy when you fight two
Bane of Havoc copies 15% of the damage you do to other targets onto the cursed one.
- 6
Cast Incinerate at targets that have Immolate
Incinerate deals an additional 25% damage to them.

Gear to look for
What the talents reward on items.
- Spell critical strike chance: Ruin raises what a critical strike is worth by 100%, and Improved Shadow Bolt triggers on one.
- No Destruction talent in the build names a stat or a weapon type.
Groups and dungeons
In a group: damage. New group talents before 3 dungeons.
In a group these talents support damage.
- None of the Destruction talents in this build mentions threat, so nothing here makes your damage safer next to a tank.
- Bane of Havoc lasts 5 min on one target, which suits a boss with a second enemy beside it.
- Intensity keeps your casts going when stray damage reaches you.
New group talents by the time each dungeon opens
Strengths and trade-offs
2 strengths, 2 trade-offs.
Strengths
- Burst. An instant Shadowburn, Conflagrate, and critical strikes that Ruin makes worth much more.
- Simple to start: for the first ten levels it is Shadow Bolt, cast faster.
Trade-offs
- None of the Destruction talents in the build restores health or Mana. Cataclysm only makes the spells cheaper.
- The demon gets nothing, and the first defensive talent, Molten Skin, starts at level 51.
